Schedule FA for Any Broker — No CSV Parser? Here's How
5 min read · Published August 2026 · Applies to AY 2026-27
1. Who this page is for
Five brokers on this site have a dedicated parser that reads their CSV or XLSX export directly: Fidelity, Charles Schwab, E*TRADE, Morgan Stanley and Interactive Brokers. Two employer stock-plan administrators with no CSV export at all get their own manual-entry pages: Shareworks and UBS. Everything else — Ally Invest, Vanguard, Robinhood, Firstrade, Public.com, Vested, Groww or INDmoney's US stock investing feature, Webull, Tastytrade, or a local broker outside the US — lands here, on itrfa.in/schedule-fa-all-brokers.
Unlike the Shareworks and UBS pages, which assume one employer's stock and vest lots, this page is built for a self-directed account that can hold any number of different tickers — each row is checked and priced per-symbol rather than assuming a single company.
2. Two ways to get your data in
Type it directly
One row per holding and one row per trade — ticker, date, quantity, price or amount, currency. A trade confirmation, a positions statement, or your own records all have everything each row needs.
AI-assisted prefill (optional)
Upload whatever your broker gave you — a statement or trade confirmation PDF, a positions/transactions export in CSV or XLSX, or a screenshot of any of those. Up to 6 files at once, every row comes back editable so you check it against your own document.
Both paths land on the same fields — institution name, holdings, trades, and optional dividends, tax withheld, and options/futures — then feed the same review screen every other broker on this site uses: exact-date SBI TTBR conversion, Table A2 and A3 computed automatically, and ITR-ready JSON plus Excel at the end.
3. Holdings vs. trades — which basis to pick
The holdings section asks one question that decides how everything downstream is computed: are these rows what you held at the end of the year (copied from a year-end positions or portfolio statement, with your trades already reflected in the numbers), or an opening balance the trades below should be applied to? Getting this wrong double-counts or drops shares entirely, so it's an explicit radio-button choice rather than a guess — pick "at the end of the year" if you're working from a positions/portfolio statement, "opening balance" if you're working from a start-of-year snapshot plus everything you traded since.
Trades themselves need no ordering — every buy and sell, one row each, in any order. Sales are matched to purchases oldest-first (FIFO) to work out cost basis. Amount is the row's total: the net amount if your document prints one, the principal otherwise.
4. Any currency, any ticker
Each row converts at its own currency's SBI TTBR — USD, EUR, GBP, SGD, AED, JPY and a dozen more, the same list SBI itself publishes a rate for. A US holding and a European holding in the same account are never forced through a USD cross-rate. For a foreign-listed stock, enter the ticker the way Yahoo Finance spells it — SAP.DE, ULVR.L — so the closing and peak value can actually be priced; a bare ticker with no exchange suffix is assumed to be a US listing.
5. What goes in Table A2 and A3
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Table A2 institution | The broker name you type in — exactly as printed on your statement, e.g. "Ally Invest Securities LLC" |
| Table A2 peak / closing balance | Computed automatically from your holdings and trades, converted at each currency's own SBI TTBR on the relevant date |
| Table A2 gross income / proceeds | From the dividend and sale rows you enter, each at its own event-date rate |
| Table A3 rows | One row per lot — ticker, acquisition date, cost basis converted to INR at that date's rate, peak and closing value, income and sale proceeds |
See the general Table A2 vs A3 breakdown for what each field means in full — it applies identically here. This page has no Table F: a self-directed account has no employer participant trust to disclose.
6. Dividends, tax withheld, options and futures
Dividends — one row per credit, gross of any tax withheld; if you only know the annual total for a stock, one row dated Dec 31 converts at the Dec-31 rate. NRA tax withholding — one row per "Foreign Tax Withheld" line, usually the same date as the dividend it relates to; not required to file, but skipping it means under-claiming the Form 67 / Schedule FSI foreign tax credit you're actually owed. Options and futures go in their own section for Table D — total invested and income only, since that's what makes an expired contract reportable at all. For a resident, F&O is often a non-speculative business taxed in ITR-3 rather than Schedule CG of the ITR-2 this tool generates — check that classification with your CA; it's a separate question from disclosing the contract in Table D.
7. Common mistakes
- Picking the wrong holdings basis. "At year end" and "opening balance" produce very different Table A3 rows from the same trades — if your closing value looks doubled or your share count is off, this is almost always why.
- Leaving off the exchange suffix on a foreign stock.
SAPwith no suffix is treated as a US ticker; it needs to beSAP.DEto be found and priced at all. - Re-typing a trade that's already reflected in a year-end holdings row. If your holdings rows come from a closing positions statement, don't also add the trades that produced them — that counts the same shares twice.
- Skipping NRA tax withholding rows. They're optional to file but not optional to the amount of credit you're entitled to — leaving them out just means claiming less than you're owed.
- Filing F&O gains in Schedule CG without checking with a CA first. Disclosure in Table D and where the gain/loss is taxed are two different questions.
