1. Why UBS has no CSV — and no readable text either
Fidelity, Schwab, E*TRADE and Morgan Stanley StockPlan Connect all give you a downloadable CSV or Excel file. UBS's Company Sponsored Stock Plan doesn't — the only document you can get is a periodic Investment Account statement, and it only comes as a PDF.
That alone would put UBS in the same boat as Shareworks (Solium), which also has no CSV. But UBS statements have a second problem: the PDF has no extractable text layer at all. The numbers on the page are drawn as vector shapes, not real selectable text and not a flat scanned image either — so copy-paste doesn't work, and neither does a generic "PDF to CSV" or text-extraction tool. That's why UBS gets its own guide instead of just following the Shareworks one: the statement itself resists automation a layer deeper.
2. Two ways to get your data in
Since there's no file to upload and no text to extract, itrfa.in/schedule-fa-ubs gives you two paths — use either, or both:
Type it directly
Enter each ESPP/RSU lot (date, quantity, price), any sales, and any dividends. Takes a few minutes with your UBS statement(s) open next to the form.
AI vision prefill (optional)
Upload your statement PDF(s); since there's no text to read, ITRFA.in renders each page as an image and AWS Bedrock (Claude, vision mode) reads it directly off the page — the same way a person would. You verify — and can edit — every value before continuing.
Both paths feed the exact same review screen as every other broker on this site — Table A2, A3, F, exact-date SBI TTBR rates (CBDT's Schedule FA filing instructions), and the ITR-ready JSON/Excel export all work identically once your rows are in. Because UBS's institution name and Nashville, TN address are fixed facts printed on every statement, ITRFA.in fills those in for Table A2 automatically — you're never asked to type them.
3. Getting your UBS statements — why one quarter isn't enough
Log in to your UBS account and download your Investment Account statements for the year. A single UBS statement only shows that period's own activity and holdings — it isn't a running full-year record like some other brokers' exports. To cover a full Schedule FA filing year (January 1 – December 31), you typically need every quarterly statement that falls in it — often 3–4 files.
- Download each quarterly Investment Account statement PDF covering the filing year
- Upload up to 6 of them together at /schedule-fa-ubs for AI prefill — ITRFA.in merges the extracted rows across statements and removes duplicate tranches automatically
- Or read the lot dates/quantities/prices off each statement yourself and type them in once, combined
Whichever path you use, review the merged rows on the review screen before continuing — a lot that appears near a quarter boundary is the one most likely to need a duplicate removed or a missing one added.
4. What goes in Table A2, A3 and F
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Table A2 institution | UBS Financial Services Inc., 315 Deaderick Street 5th Floor, Nashville, TN 37238-3000 — filled in automatically, since it's fixed on every UBS statement |
| Table A2 closing balance | Total holdings × Dec 31 stock price × SBI TTBR Dec 31 — computed automatically from your entered lots |
| Table A2 gross income / proceeds | From the dividend and sale rows you enter, each converted at its own event-date SBI TTBR rate |
| Table A3 rows | One row per ESPP purchase or RSU vest lot — initial value at purchase price or FMV on that date × SBI TTBR |
| Table F trust | Opt-in only — trust/trustee fields stay blank unless you fill them in yourself from your plan documents. Nothing about a trust is assumed for UBS. |
See the general Table A2 vs A3 breakdown for what each field means — it applies identically here.
5. ESPP vs RSU — check the default
UBS's "Common stock" holdings table lists trade date, number of shares, purchase/average price and cost basis for each lot — but it doesn't label a lot as ESPP or RSU. Because most UBS Company Sponsored Stock Plan grants seen here are ESPP, AI prefill assumes ESPP by default and only marks a lot as RSU/vest when the statement explicitly says so (e.g. a "Vest" or "RSU" label on the activity line).
Always check this on the review screen. If your plan is RSU-only, or mixes both, correct the lot type before continuing — it changes whether Table A3's initial value uses your actual purchase price (ESPP) or the FMV on vest date (RSU), and getting it backwards understates or overstates initial value.
6. Foreign dividends and NRA tax withholding
UBS statements report dividend and tax activity under "Account activity this period" — look for lines marked Foreign Dividend (gross dividend, goes to Schedule OS and Table A2 gross income) and Foreign Tax Withheld (NRA withholding, the tax the US withheld at source — needed for your Schedule TR / Form 67 foreign tax credit claim). Enter both; sale, withdrawal or redemption lines feed the sales rows the same way.
See the Foreign Tax Credit & Form 67 guide for how NRA withholding turns into a DTAA credit.
7. Common mistakes
- Uploading only one quarter's statement. A single UBS statement doesn't cover the full filing year — missing quarters means missing lots, sales or dividends. Upload every quarterly statement that falls in Jan 1 – Dec 31.
- Leaving every lot as ESPP when some are RSU vests. AI prefill defaults to ESPP unless the statement explicitly says otherwise — verify each lot type on the review screen.
- Assuming UBS doesn't need Schedule FA because there's no CSV. The disclosure obligation depends on holding foreign equity, not on which broker's export format (or lack of one) you have.
- Using March 31 instead of Dec 31 for closing balance. Same rule as every other broker — the accounting period for a US account ends Dec 31.
- Entering net shares after tax withholding as the lot quantity. Enter the shares actually credited per the statement's cost-basis table, and record any shares withheld for tax as part of that lot's history, not as a silently reduced quantity — same trap as vest lots on other brokers.
